PROTECT YOUR SMILE WITH GENERAL DENTISTRY IN TORONTO AND WOODBRIDGE

Recently Canada stood on guard to celebrate Canada 150. Dr Koo, Dr Newman and the team at Smilecare Dentistry stand on guard for your oral health. As your oral health guardians, protecting your smile is an essential part of our general dentistry services in Toronto and Woodbridge. While regular brushing and flossing at home is essential to maintaining good oral health, only a dental professional can safely remove plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth. Maintaining and improving your oral health also helps you protect your overall health. Did you know that cardiovascular disease is linked to poor oral health?

As the official dentist for the Toronto Maple Leafs AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, Dr Koo also stands on guard to protect the smiles of these upcoming hockey stars.

Cleaning and Hygiene

Our dental hygienists get into the small crevices and spaces of your teeth and get rid of plaque build-up that your toothbrush may have missed. When you leave one of our clinics, you will smile with confidence knowing that your teeth are as clean as possible. Regular cleanings also let us keep an eye out for and monitor potential issues, like periodontal disease, before they become problems.

Periodontal and Gum Disease Treatment

Do your gums bleed when you are brushing? Gum disease causes a number of different symptoms, ranging from uncomfortable irritation of the gums to serious infections of the soft tissues and underlying bone structure. We offer a number of treatments designed to target gum disease, including deep cleaning and root planing to other surgical options.

How to Properly Brush and Floss Teeth

You should brush your teeth twice a day after meals and floss once a day in order to maintain your dental health. However, did you know that at Smilecare, we strongly recommend that you should floss before brushing your teeth? This is to ensure you remove any food (lunch, dinner - hopefully not yesterday’s) and plaque stuck there first. Brushing afterwards ensures all that stuff is removed! Use a soft brush and enamel-protecting toothpaste, aim at the gum line, and brush gently in a circular fashion going up and down. Make sure you get every side of each tooth.

Prevent Tooth Decay

Fluoride is a mineral used to prevent the decay of tooth enamel and the subsequent layers of your teeth. As your teeth encounter acidic and harmful chemicals caused by plaque, the enamel layer becomes worn down over time. Fluoride is applied to your teeth to form a protective layer and prevent further erosion of your enamel.

Dental Sealants to Prevent Childhood Tooth Decay

The regular use of fluoride and similar sealants has additional benefits for children ages 6-16. At this age, fluoride will actually be incorporated into the developing teeth. This will make them stronger and provide an additional layer of protection in adulthood.

Mouth Guard and Night Guards

All the Toronto Marlies wear custom mouth guards to protect their teeth as they train and compete on the ice. No one wants to take a puck or a ball in the face! For children, these types of accidents can damage the progress of incoming adult teeth and no one wants to lose their front teeth! A custom-made mouth guard can protect your teeth while you’re giving your team 110% on the field.

Does your partner tell you that your teeth squeak or that you chomp at night? Do you wake up with a sore jaw? You may be grinding your teeth at night. A night guard can help lessen the forces on your teeth from grinding while you are asleep. It is a simple way to protect your teeth while you are sleeping.
